The Henley Passport Index, which has been monitoring the world's most travel-friendly passports since 2006, has released its latest rankings and analysis.

The passport that opens the most doors

Since the index does not take into account time restrictions, Japan is back in the top spot in the rankings, with its passport offering visa-free access to 193 destinations around the world.

Below is the list provided by Henley that evaluates the number of countries to which citizens can travel without the need to apply for a visa.

The Henley Passport Index is based on data provided by the International Air Transport Authority (IATA) and covers 199 passports and 227 travel destinations. It is updated in real time throughout the year, as visa policy changes take effect.

The gap in freedom to travel is the largest it has existed in decades and disparities between countries with respect to access to vaccination could worsen the situation, says the report by the consulting firm Henley & Partners.
