Imagine cycling with the sound of the river beside you, castles perched on hills, and charming towns waiting at every stop.
That’s the Rhine Cycle Route (EV15), the first long-distance itinerary officially certified in Europe: over 1,200 kilometers from the Swiss Alps to the North Sea, crossing Switzerland, France, Germany, and the Netherlands. This means that the entire certified route is suitable for regular cyclists, while 97% is considered appropriate even for occasional riders.
And it's not just any road:
- 1,450 km from the Swiss Alps to the North Sea.
- 87% car-free (yes, EIGHTY-SEVEN).
- Part of the mega EuroVelo network, an epic 99,000 km project aiming to connect the entire continent by 2030.
Once completed, you’ll be able to pedal —at least in theory— from Norway to Spain without touching a highway.

What makes the Rhine Route so special?
- Total safety: impeccable signage, well-maintained paths, and many bike-only sections.
- Next-level bike-friendly: accommodations with bike storage, repair shops, e-bike chargers, and hosts who understand what it’s like to arrive sweaty and geared up.
- Landscapes that change every day: Swiss glaciers, Lake Constance, Alsace vineyards, the castles of the Middle Rhine Valley, Dutch windmills, green plains, and the North Sea breeze welcoming you at the end.

But the EV15 isn't alone: Europe is full of iconic cycling routes. If you like the idea of exploring the continent by bike, here are some others that have already become legendary:
EuroVelo 6 – From Nantes to Budapest
More than 3,600 km linking the Atlantic to the Black Sea along the Loire, Rhine, and Danube rivers. One of the most popular routes in the world: history, great food, and charming villages across 10 countries.

EuroVelo 8 – The Mediterranean Route
From Cádiz to Athens and Cyprus. Spanish beaches, the French Riviera, the Dalmatian coast… Perfect for lovers of sun, sea, and Mediterranean culture.

EuroVelo 13 – The Iron Curtain Trail
Over 10,000 km from the Arctic to the Black Sea, following the former border that divided Eastern and Western Europe. Ideal for adventure seekers, history lovers, and fans of wild landscapes.

Danube Cycle Path (EV6 – Danube section)
Between Germany and Hungary, one of the busiest routes in Europe. It passes through Vienna and Bratislava and offers fully adapted cycling paths with cultural and culinary stops.

The rise of e-bikes and GPS navigation apps has transformed cycle tourism: now you can plan routes, estimate effort, and book accommodation right from your phone.
And EuroVelo, with more than 90,000 interconnected kilometers, is redefining how people travel across Europe: slower, more mindful, and more connected to the environment.
The Rhine Route is more than a path. It’s an invitation to see Europe without filters: at your own pace, without rush, without noise, and with the freedom only a bicycle can give. If you’re looking for a different, accessible adventure that mixes nature, history, food, and movement… this is the way.
